Education is key to Promoting Sustainability and Sustainable Living Awareness.

Welcome to our world at SustainableBluePlanet.com We love our big beautiful blue planet and we believe that you do too.

On this website our primary objective is to introduce to persons from all-walks-in-life only green or sustainability orientated subject material associated with matters of a sustainable and environmentally friendly nature. We cover the subjects of: water conservation, soil science, sustainable living and the environment. We feel that these subjects need immediate attention because they are fundamental to human survival. There is so much more work that needs to be done and everyone can participate in some way. These topics are extremely important (as are many others) but we will diversify our subject base and in-depth coverage; all in good time (please note: red or blue underscored text can be clicked).

What does sustainable mean? What is sustainability?

Why should we adopt a sustainable lifestyle?

Sustainability issues should be part of school curriculum. Contemporary schools are involving pupils in gardening projects, nature walks or other rural/fauna activity, which are popular and successful. These projects already benefit from some of the concepts of sustainability in respect of the positive affects felt by the pupils, just as the adults will experience the same benefits when their activities are performed within a rural/nature setting (see benefits of green exercise)

We would like to help people in-all-walks-of-life (especially those without knowledge and a deeper understanding of sustainability science) and guide them in the direction of improved sustainable living lifestyles, which can greatly improve the quality of their life and be rewarding; not only to those peoples concerned but also create huge benefits for the environment in which they live in and which people and nature ultimately depend on. Humankind benefit greatly from the existence of a diverse presence of wild fauna/flora (animal & plant life) in their surround. A healthier environment and improved quality of life can be created by changing our lifestyles and converting to a more sustainable way of life; like making informed decisions about transportation needs, buying sustainable materialgreen products, making alternative house plans that incorporate alternative energy like installing a biomass boiler system or other green energy to improve the efficient running of the home or make improvements to other living spaces, turning your house into a green home, creating a productive allotment or sustainable vegetable garden or creating green living roof space, the options are endless. We offer many useful tips for saving money and making improvements around the household in these difficult economic times.

Businesses (& households) can invest in alternative sustainable energy (like geothermal energy, solar & wind power, anaerobic digestion for instance) and by becoming more conscientious about their carbon/ecological footprint (see also 'Estimating the Social Cost of Carbon Emissions'), feel proud of achieving improved environmentally friendly status, earning them respect from their ecofriendly communities, customers, friends and be rewarded by the benefits of long-term sustainable economic prospects as well as the actual benefits of improved biodiversity and environmental sustainability gains. Developing sustainable agriculture systems are also crucial to humanities existence, as are (GHG) Green House Gas emission reduction in our transport sector and the development of a sustainable construction industry.
Ultimately we should concentrate on further improving on our recycling and reducing waste with an important emphasis on natural resource use reduction (like water and energy usage and so on), which all help to downsize an ecological/carbon footprint = less pollution and help reduce the effects of climate change (through climate change energy & action). Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

It is alarming to note that the recent update on carbon emission volume totals, are in fact increasing heavily and NOT decreasing with our current efforts.

What next for sustainable development (Sustainable Development Commission 2011).
Point of view about sustainable development.
Sustainability, green culture, ecofriendly, green power and so on, are not just terms that are merely associated with some perceived ex-hippy culture or any other unfashionable label, it is about taking responsibility in how we live and facing up to the consequences of all our actions which affect the bigger picture like our natural environment (biodiversity), the world in which we live, climate change, quality of life and the consequences to the future generations who inherit the positive and negative aspects of our contemporary actions or inaction. It is also very much to do with tackling poverty issues and is most definitely NOT pro-marginalisation. Sustainability is not just some fad or whim that will eventually disappear because it is subject to some cynical disfavour or subject to a convenient unpopularity vote. A sustainable culture movement has surfaced because it is the right and only direction for humanity to take. Sustainable development is here to stay because it is the only answer and cure for failing global economies. Sustainability issues and the concept of sustainability is all around us and whether it is common knowledge or not; leading a more sustainable lifestyle is everyone's concern and will therefore soon be playing an even more effective role in everybody's everyday life as we head further toward a green living culture.

If we included all the sustainable issues on this broad based subject in depth on this website, you may not ever return again while under the influence of chronic depression. Therefore we have chosen for the time being to concentrate on the four subjects 1); water conservation because it is a very serious issue and currently water consumption is not sustainable and we can ALL make a difference to this hugely important precious natural resource usage dilemma, which we are all going to have to face up to & make informed decisions on. 2); Soil health because of the lack of understanding, knowledge and the importance of sustaining the quality of our soils, which are not managed properly (in most cases), soil is generally over-worked, neglected, polluted and subjected to chemical over-use and complete destruction globally. Without water we will perish, without healthy soil with which to grow an adequate supply of food, we will starve (food security). 3); Sustainable living is what we could all also improve on, which would have a directly positive influence on the bigger picture including 4); environmental sustainability. More importantly, these are all things that are within everyone's ability to do something about, not just businesses or politicians (and being dependant on their decisions before we can actually act for ourselves). Naturally we will and must include other very important issues on this website in the very near future but we believe information overload is counter-productive in promoting sustainability awareness.

On the left is the IPCC (2007) 4th Assessment Climate Change Report. To the right (below) is a trendy way to encourage action against global warming. Would you be more inclined to be persuaded to tackle the GHG global warming effect from watching the video on the right? It is respectable and decent honest.
We hope that your experience spent with us is an enjoyable, interesting, informative, productive and sustainable one. We will constantly be updating our website and welcome any comments, questions or point of view. Please bookmark this page and we hope that you will return here again very soon!
